First Annual BOS-BCS Awards

We have a lot of fun here at Boys of Spring, especially during February and March which is our time of the year - Spring Training! It's a time for teams to prepare for the regular season, and so it is with Boys of Spring. We hope our multi-media coverage of the Cubs keeps you informed and helps get you ready for the regular season. There are many other fantastic Cubs blogs and websites on the interwebs, most of them like BOS do it for the love of the Cubs. So in our ongoing effort to help you get ready for the regular season we want to recognize some of these great Cubs fan websites by announcing our first annual Boys of Spring - Best Cubs Site Awards, otherwise known as the BOS-BCS Awards.

This area would have been boring with no photo
This is not an original idea by any stretch, my friends over at were doing something similar until the website sadly was forced into early retirement by legal pressures (nothing to do with the awards). Like Cubscast we are doing this with a don't take it serious attitude and just looking to get some recognition for these very deserving Cubs fan websites. So it's time to get your favorite Cubs site nominated! It is award season with the Golden Globes and SAG Awards just completed and the Grammys and Academy Awards upcoming this month. After all what could be more prestigious and high brow than black tie accompanied by Chicago Dogs and Old Style.

A couple rules, websites can not be affiliated or run by Major League Baseball or the Chicago Cubs organization or any current MLB players, or any reporter who actually gets paid to cover the Cubs. This is for the fans. The Boys of Spring site and Sheridan's Blog will not be eligible for nomination even though judging will be done by an independent panel (other than the 'fan favorite' which will be voted by the fans). Nominations will be accepted beginning now until midnight February 10. You can nominate your favorite site in any of the categories below by: 1) Posting a nomination as a comment here on this blog. 2) Tweeting it on twitter with the hashtag #BOSBCS. 3) Nominating on our Boys of Spring - Wrigleyville West page. 4) Emailing to Please make sure to say which category you are nominating a site for and include a link or full internet address.

So without further ado, here are the categories for nomination for the 2012 BOS - BCS Awards:

  • The Santo - Best Original Cubs Content
  • The Harry - Best Cubs Blog Single Author
  • The Billy & Fergie - Best Cubs Blog Multiple Authors
  • The Jolly Cholly - Best Cubs Humor
  • *The Ryno - Cubs Fan Favorite
  • The Mr. Cub, aka The Ernie - Best Overall Cubs Site
* The Ryno will be a 100 percent on-line fan vote to select the winner.

When nominations close at midnight on February 10, 2012 we will then post the websites up for the Ryno - Fan Favorite award on Saturday morning Feb.11 at 10am upon which on-line voting will begin and run for one week until Cubs Pitchers and Catchers report at 10am Feb.18. (All Times local AZ)

The BOS-BCS Award Show where the winners will be announced will be held on Feb. 22. We promise some surprises and Cubs related guests and presenters!

Ladies and Gentleman...Let the nominations begin.

The Harry -
The Ryno -
The Mr. Cub (Or The Ernie!) -

Been visiting Brett "Ace"'s site for a couple of seasons now and it improves every day! I'm hoping he receives some recognition and would like to thank Boys of Spring for conducting the awards. Kudos! PS. You're right, that area WOULD have been boring w/o the gorgeous Sofia pic.

BleacherNation for "The Ernie". In years past I would start my winter mornings in the sports section hoping for Cub's news. Thanks to Bleachernation I get accurate, timely stories about my favorite team every day. By far the best source for all things Cubs. Hope this is a slam dunk!

Once a site is nominated for a category, they are nominated. It's great to see such support for Bleacher Nation but unless you are nominating for a new category, there is no reason to keep nominating.

Once nominations are closed on the 10th we will let everyone know when and how the voting for "The Ryno" will take place.

The Santo: bleachernation
The Harry: Bleacher Nation
The Jolly Cholly: Goat Riders of the Apocalypse
The Mr. Cub: Bleacher Nation

John Arguello at Cubs Den does a great job and will be a shoe-in for the Billy & Fergie next year now that he and Tom Loxas have joined up, but the absolute best site, IMHO, by far is Brett's at Bleacher nation.

Brett is an amazing writer, stays on top of all developments, offers insightful analysis to everything Cubs, and has the ability to make you laugh with his witty commentary. Best blog (Cubs or otherwise) I've ever followed. Keep up the great work, Brett!
